California Smoke Map 2025. Npr’s california newsroom partnered with stanford university’s environmental change and human outcomes lab to map the increasing prevalence of wildfire smoke across. Light gray smoke on the map indicates a dispersed, lightly visible haze, whereas dark gray or black areas indicate a clearly visible smoke plume.
